The procedures and processes for handling foreign-related marriages mainly include the following steps:
1、 Apply for marriage registration
Chinese citizens and foreigners need to jointly apply to the marriage registration authority in the place where one of the Chinese citizens is registered.
Both parties need to fill out the "Application for Marriage Registration Declaration" and personally sign or fingerprint it in front of the marriage registrar.
2、 Submit proof materials
Chinese citizens are required to submit a household registration book, ID card, and a signed declaration stating that they have no spouse, no direct blood relationship with the other party, and no collateral blood relationship within three generations.
Foreigners are required to submit valid passports or other international travel documents, as well as certificates of non spouse certified by Chinese embassies (consulates) in the country or by Chinese embassies (consulates) in China.
3、 Registration authority review
The marriage registration authority reviews the documents and proof materials submitted by both parties.
If necessary, the registration authority may require the parties to provide further supporting materials or conduct an investigation.
4、 Register and issue certificates
After examination, if the marriage meets the conditions for marriage, the marriage registration authority will approve the registration and issue a marriage certificate.
The marriage certificate must be affixed with photos of both the male and female parties, and stamped with the government marriage registration special seal for handling foreign-related marriage registration.
After completing the above steps, both parties establish their marital relationship. If the marriage registration authority refuses to register, a written explanation and reasons should be provided.
